How my art journey began…

I grew up on a barrier island off the coast of New Jersey. The island was four blocks wide from the ocean to the bay. Living on an island I learned to appreciate everything about the coastal environment, how connected we are to nature and the impact nature has on our everyday lives. The ocean, bay, beaches were my playground. I would build castles and forts in the sand, set up sidewalk shell stands, for the tourists, to sell my decorated shells, fishing and crabbing at the crack of dawn, and exploring all the sea life living in and out of the water. My summer days were spent on the beach swimming and rafting with friends on the north side of Casino Pier. These experiences left lasting memories that take form in my current work.

I first recognized my calling to be an artist around the fifth grade while taking Saturday morning painting classes, and a lifelong passion was ignited. When it came time for college, I started out studying Medical Illustration but eventually switched to Fine Art Drawing and Painting. In college I studied and got to explore all forms of art and art history earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Florida Atlantic University, in Boca Raton, Florida.

After college I continued to paint and began teaching art part time. I also began to exhibit, sell work, win awards, and had gallery representation for about twenty years. My art continued to evolve as did my life and family. I settled in with watercolor while my children were young. I was working abstractly and started using the shells I collected from the beach as the subject matter as I continue to do today. My paintings range from abstract to representational. The sea shells, the beach, and ocean subject matter brings that coastal vibe into a home. Take at look at my current paintings.
