THE OCEAN STORY IS OUR STORY
Using coastal imagery, I return repeatedly to the seashell—an ordinary object that carries extraordinary resonance. Its balance of complexity and simplicity, its endurance in the natural world, and its quiet presence make it a powerful metaphor for the human condition.
The shell becomes both subject and symbol. It holds memory, suggests impermanence, and reflects transformation. Through layered washes, and attention to light and texture a visual cohesion is created between the natural and surreal, creating work that feels intimate and contemplative.
These paintings acknowledge both the beauty and fragility of creation—of coastal environments and of our own lives. By elevating the humble shell, these paintings become meditations on fragility, resilience, and the invisible threads that connect all living things.
My contemporary watercolor paintings of seashells are a celebration of the coastal beauty and the profound connections between nature, humanity, and the spirit. Looking deep into the ocean's bounty, to understand the secrets and wisdom it shares. The sea becomes a timeless teacher, guiding us towards a deeper connection with ourselves and the world around us.
